Rescue Operations Progress at Kloof Gold Mine

Rescue efforts are underway at the Kloof gold mine near Johannesburg, where 260 miners remain trapped underground following a shaft incident. Sibanye-Stillwater, the mining company, reports that all workers are safe and are being provided with essentials as they await extraction.

The incident occurred due to a malfunction in the shaft’s rock winder skip door, causing damage that necessitated a temporary halt in operations. The National Union of Mineworkers has raised concerns over the company’s communication regarding the rescue timeline.

Authorities are coordinating efforts to ensure the miners’ safe return to the surface, with expectations to complete the operation by Friday.
